GALLERY – Garden structures
One of our clients takes her gardening very seriously. We built all three of these garden structures on her Rappahannock County estate.
TUNNEL ARBOR
This curving arbor supports climbing roses. The gentle bend means you
can’t see from one end to the other, which gives it an alluring
air of mystery.
FENCED GARDEN
Although it gives
the appearance of a formal cast iron fence, this vegetable garden enclosure
is made of pressure-treated wood. It’s a nice way of inviting Peter
Rabbit to go elsewhere for breakfast. We built the little tool shed as
well.
POOLSIDE GAZEBO
We constructed this hexagonal gazebo as a demonstration project for Scott’s
book “Building Outdoor Structures”. The parts were prefabricated
in the shop, so the frame went up pretty quickly in spite of the curved
roof. The time-consuming part was weaving cedar roof shingles along the
six swooping hips.
The owner provided the painted-lady color scheme – just right for a garden folly. Now she has a ringside seat when her dogs do belly-flops in the pond.
